Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has been named as the new manager of the National Soccer Team, the Socceroos announced today.
In his role, Postecollgou will lead the squad through the Asian Cup, the World Cup and the Confederations Cup.
He will have the role of the coach of the national team in the next five years, when the Socceroo squad is due to make its debut in Australia for the 2019 World Cup.
The Socceroos will make their first appearance in Australia in 2019, when they face China in the Hyundai A-League.
The squad is made up of a mix of experienced and emerging players.
It includes players from the national side, with some being under the age of 25.
“It’s an incredible privilege to be chosen to lead the Socceros,” Postecolgou said.
I am honoured to have been chosen to manage the national teams for the first time and I am delighted to be working alongside such an inspiring group of talented players.
“I know this team has the talent to be one of the best in the world.
I’m confident they will build on this fantastic experience.”
The Socceroo national team is the highest-ranked Australian club in the World.
Australia has qualified for every major tournament since the 2014 World Cup, but has only managed to play in one World Cup since then, in the 2014 quarter-finals against the United States.
Postecoglu will take over the Soccerers after retiring as Socceroos manager in October.
